PT: Shared teaching

Jan 23, 2018

Shared teaching, or teachers sharing classes, is reasonably common in primary schools, and at interview times the parent needs to meet with both of the teachers, not just one.  As of March 2015 Sobs supports ‘Shared Teaching’ configuration, where we specify a class with a primary and any number of secondary teachers.

Setup

At the list of interviews select the interview you want to configure and click the ‘Shared teaching’ button (far right).

Use the ‘Add a pairing’ button to add a pair of teachers to the list.  A pairing consists of a ‘primary’ (main) teacher and a ‘secondary’ (additional) teacher.  You can add multiple pairings, and a ‘primary’ teacher can be paired against multiple ‘secondary’ teachers.  ie A => B, A => C.

Once a teacher is configured as a ‘primary’ teacher they are no longer eligible as a ‘secondary’ teacher.  And vice-versa, once a teacher is configured as a ‘secondary’ teacher they are no longer eligible as a ‘primary’ teacher.

Continue to add pairings for each shared teaching class.

If a pairing is added in error, then use the ‘Delete’ link to delete the pairing.

All of the pairings should be in place prior to any bookings.

The rest of the system simply checks if the teacher is a ‘primary’ teacher, and if so, displays all of the names connected with this ‘primary’ teacher.  All of the actions are then normal in regard to making bookings, reporting, availability, etc.

Managing availability

Once the pairing is configured, the ‘primary’ teacher is considered to be the teacher against which bookings and availability is recorded.  So when the ‘primary’ teacher logs in and views their bookings for the round, the system will display the all of the teacher names connected with this ‘primary’ teacher.  Similarly when the ‘secondary’ teacher logs in they will automatically see the interviews booked under the ‘primary’ teacher, but the name at the top of the page will reflect all of the teacher names connected with this ‘primary’ teacher.

For example, “Interview Round: Term 2  APRICOT, Andy / BANANA, Barry”

Marking availability is performed normally, and while the availability is recorded internally against the ‘primary’ teacher, the system will always display the full list of names associated with this ‘primary’ teacher.

Making and Managing Bookings

As with availability, bookings are internally recorded against the ‘primary’ teacher, however the names displayed will always include all of the teachers connected with this ‘primary’ teacher.
